alumnas-ug-motivan-a-mujeres-a-ganar-espacios-en-ingenieria-ugtoSalamanca, Gto., March 9, 2018.- The division of engineering of the University of Guanajuato (UG) opened its doors to 300 students from different high schools in 7 cities, to motivate them to choose their professional development in an area as challenging and full of opportunities as engineering.

"Women in Engineering" is an event of and for women who believe that engineering is an option to develop a successful professional career, organized by university members who belong to the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Mexican Society of Mechanical Engineering (SOMIM) and the Pi Tau Sigma fraternity, with support from the rectory of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca and the division of engineering.

The students from the Colegio de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos del Estado de Guanajuato (CECYTEG), Centro de Estudios Tecnológicos en Aguas Continentales (CETAC) and the Vocacional de Salamanca, as well as high schools of León, Irapuato, Guanajuato, Moroleón, Pénjamo & Salvatierra, they were able to learn about the development opportunities offered by the engineers, in the voice of the graduates Celia Navarro, Silvia López and Beatriz Gutiérrez, who shared their experiences in the industry.

"Is engineering a career for women? Of course, it is! since there is nothing inherent in engineering that excludes women from enjoying this discipline, "said Valentina Arévalo Arredondo, member of the organizing committee and student of Mechanical engineering.

"Success is based on capacity and determination, and not on gender," she said, universities and companies want to see more women in engineering, to enjoy the creativity and the challenging environment that it offers its professionals.

"Don't let the genre prevent you from doing what you want. Studying an engineering opens many options to develop in the field of work, public, private, industry, teaching or research, remember that engineering will continue to transform society," she added.

The students were formally received by Dr. Martín Picón Núñez, Academic Secretary of Campus Irapuato—Salamanca, accompanied by Lic. Esteban Martínez Hernández, General Director of Culture, Education and Youth Attention of Salamanca, M. Abraham Nemesio Serrato, Coordinator of UGénero Program of the University of Guanajuato, as well as directors, staff and students of DICIS.

Currently, a thousand female students are enrolled at DICIS, which represents a third of their full enrollment.
