This award is a recognition to organizations that have had more than one year of work with social impact; Of the 170 candidates, they chose only 15 projects in 2017, among them, UG mentors.
In an interview, Jessica Durán reported that mentors is a volunteer organization that seeks to generate actions to strengthen the educational demand in elementary children based on the problems that the book "How to change stories", describes the three areas of opportunity in education in Mexico: the lack of examples to follow, the lack of early detection of talent and the lack of funding.
In these areas of opportunity, the mentoring program focuses on solving the basic level of school issues. In its first stage the volunteers are presented with the children to know the various careers and professions in which they can develop academically and professionally.
The second stage seeks to detect the talent in children, not only know their cognitive or readers skills, but the characteristics that differentiate or in which they have greater skills, and then talk with their parents about their talents to be supported.
They are currently in the third stage of financing, to bring children closer to new opportunities and to reduce the economic problem. They are looking for ways to get scholarships or financing from a variety of public or private sectors that offer financial support, and thus achieve their goal of completing the higher level.
Over the course of these nearly three years, they have helped more than 200 primary students, who have received the support and guidance of young academics, with various workshops, lectures and activities for their academic and personal development.
She invited the university students to join this project; the summon will be open from April 15 to 30, 2018 for those interested in mentoring, will receive the necessary training to strengthen this program.
