León, Gto., March 16, 2018.- To explain the role that neurotransmitters have in mental processes, the relationship they have with physical and psychological disorders, in addition to commenting on how the nervous system is formed and its anatomical distribution, there was a conference titled "Neurotransmitters and hormones that cause us happiness."
The talk was presented by Dr. Sergio Márquez Gamiño, Dra. Karla Susana Vera Delgado, scholars of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG) and was attended by graduates of the degree of Sciences of the Physical Activity and Health, Jorge Luis Serrano Rangel and Perla Salazar Rivera, who motivated the attendees to perform physical activity.
As part of the science outreach activities organized by the "Explora" Science Center which is located in the city of León, Dr. Sergio Márquez Gamiño, accompanied by Dr. Karla Susana Vera Delgado shared with 85 high school students from the city of Queretaro, the importance of the nervous system in the human body, its functioning, the classification of neurotransmitters and how these become signals to the whole organism and how they relate with physical and mental well-being.
They indicated that "neurotransmitters are chemicals created by the body that transmit information from one neuron to the next through contact points called synapses."
During his speech they commented on the complexity and versatility of the human brain, the way in which emotions are gestated and the possible effects on the organism that are caused by factors such as drug use, sleep disorders and poor nutrition.
In this sense, Dr. Sergio Márquez commented that methamphetamines have effects on neurons, "on the subsidiary cells that constitute the central nervous system."
He recommended physical activity to promote health because "exercising has the effect of producing happiness, but also has the effect of protecting the structures of the brain from the anatomical and functional point of view."
He also explained that neurotransmitters such as serotonin, commonly known as the hormone of happiness, has several effects on the human body and a general mismatch in the production of this substance can have drastic effects, such as depression.
Jorge Luis Serrano expressed in an interview the positive response they had by the students "we intervened with a routine of physical activity during the event and made known the benefits of exercising and the impact it has In the physical and mental aspect, degenerative diseases can be prevented, in addition to improving mood, concentration, sleep quality, rest, memory, learning and reducing stress, "he concluded.
