Salamanca, Gto. March 20, 2018.- Dr. John Lienhard, professor emeritus of the University of Houston, visited the engineering division of the University of Guanajuato (UG), where he shared with mechanical engineering students a reflection on nature, technology, culture and human inventiveness.
The visitor offered at venue Salamanca the talk "Nature and Engineering", making an analogy of how the birds inspired the construction of airplanes and planes, and how humans have built robots to resemble.
Professor Emeritus of Technology and culture, considered that machines and technology have changed the pace of human life and have taken a turn in history, and in some cultures, have become the center of life for families.
The researcher visited venue Salamanca invited by the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) grouping of which is an honorary member.
It should be mentioned that the professor is a popular speaker in the United States, as he approached the non-specialized public thanks to a radio program called "The machines of our ingenuity", which tells the story of how our culture is made up of human creativity. From that program a book with the same name was published.
The doctor in mechanical engineering who is known for his research in the thermal sciences, as well as in the cultural history, is author or coauthor of four books and more than 300 articles.
In 1991, the University of Houston presented Dr. Lienhard with the highest honor of the faculty, the Esther Farfel Award for his excellence in research, teaching and service to his profession and the community.
For his work in "The Engines of Our Ingenuity", ASME awarded him the 1998 Engineer Historian Award and the Ralph Coates Roe of 1989 for his contributions to the public knowledge of technology. In addition, American women on Radio and television honored him with the 1991 Portrait Division Award.
