Guanajuato, Gto., April 9, 2018.- Dr. Martha Lengeling Kimberley is a professor and researcher at the Department of Languages of the University of Guanajuato and since her formation as a professor, she has dedicated to study topics she is curious about such as the experiences of teaching English in Mexico, as well as discrimination and identity.
She has compiled and edited several publications in collaborations with other universities like the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla.
In an interview she commented that one of her main interests is to study the identity of the English professor, since many of them have special cases in which they become teachers nearly by accident.
Her research collects testimonies from several English professors of Mexico and abroad with the purpose to know their experiences. That way she can know the emotions, concerns, challenges and achievements the experience of being able to teach a foreign language gives them.
Parting from qualitative research, meaning, through surveys, focus groups, observation, all based on a linguistic and semiotic analysis, is how Dr. Lengeling studies the topics she is interested in.
The researcher is from United States and came to Mexico with as an Art professor, however, being English her native language she was offered to teach classes. "I arrived in Mexico very young, they offered me a job as an English professor, I didn't feel with that profession until I studied a master's degree in West Virginia University and a Ph.D. afterwards. My doctoral thesis was about the formation of English teachers in an International Course offered in the University of Guanajuato and how they became teachers in Mexico."
