Guanajuato, Gto., April 16, 2018.- Dr. Edgar Vázquez Núñez, ascribed to the Department of Chemical, Electronic and Biomedical Engineering of the University of Guanajuato (UG), participates in an international network about sustainability and education with the objective to develop capabilities, skills and competencies to direct sustainable changes.
The project was organized in 2010 by the German Agency of International Cooperation "Deutsche Gessellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit – GIZ" and chose India, South Africa and Mexico for being similar countries in economic and geographic terms to collaborate with the agency.
GIZ is an organization that promotes complex change reforms and process. Its objective is to improve the conditions of life of the population on a sustainable base.
With this backstory, the ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) Expert Net was created; the objective is to strengthen the international dialogue to the same level regarding the education for the sustainable development and begin changes in a joint manner with emergent countries about how you can solve the global problems through education.
The program was established in South Africa, within the international meeting for the climatic change in Bonn, Germany, which gathers young practitioners called "mentís" who are led by experts in the net called "mentors", together they develop a virtual platform and evaluate work towards sustainability.
This year, from May 29 to June 3, students and researchers from five countries will gather in León, Guanajuato, among them, a female student of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Guanajuato, Sarahí Plascencia, with the objective to analyze and evaluate the progress of the projects that haver worked hand by hand for six months.
During the stay, they have considered field visits to the industrial area, specifically to the leather and tanning sector due to its implementations of environmental policies; to the metropolitan park because of its non-formal education program about environment and sustainability and at the end, they'll make a bike tour to know, value and improve the bike-ways in the city of León.
At the end, the expert "mentors" will gather to solve the development of the work, establish the guidelines of the following summon and improve the format, with the objective to improve the training of the youth in pro of sustainability.
Plus, there will be an activity known as Project Market, and it consists in presenting the projects to the "mentis" through posters where the work is shown and where they will participate: The Energy Resources Institute (TERI), led by Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, winner of the Nobel for the Peace Award; South African, Indian, German and Mexican universities, among them, the Universidad Veracruzana, the Universidad de Colima and the University of Guanajuato, members of the network of universities that work in terms of sustainability and environmental conservation.
These activities will be held on June 1st and will be done on the venue Forum León and will have the participation of municipal authorities and the representative of the environment and sustainability university program.
The researcher explained that sustainability should be the frame of all human activities and that in Mexico, the term is barely known, it is known more as environmental education.
"There shouldn't be any human activity, research, industrial or academic that is outside the sustainability, because every time we are closer to the breakpoint of the environmental resources", he mentioned.
He remarked that in the Division of Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guanajuato are working from different research areas to permeate the term sustainability to the society of Guanajuato and have an impact in the development of the country.
