Guanajuato, Gto., April 17, 2018.- Students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) developed an ecological technique to use the water lily to create paper, without using glue, and a project to fight the industrial spills through this plant.

This project's coordinator is the student of the degree in Business Management in the venue Yuriria of the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Candelaria Natali Sixto Rodríguez, who assured that this project despite having little time it has had great results in the region.

She explained that the idea came from conferences of the subject in sustainable businesses at UG, which presented what other things have been doing in the country to fight water lily, so, that is how the idea came to offer products with a new ecological alternative.

At the beginning of the project, they talked to different artisans to seek the best way to create ecological paper based on the lily, which allowed to boost the economy of the region and fight the problem that has spread on the Yuriria Lagoon.

She added that the knowledge she has acquired at UG in management have favored her to generate new idea and make a business plan to benefit several people.

At the beginning of the project, they were only working with water lily, but now they also use remains from other raw materials such as aloe, reed, or tule, using all the material to avoid wasting.

To give better ecological results they also use material that has been previously collected from recycling areas, such as paper, cardboard, and milk cartons, to produce other kind of paper or covers of the different products they generate.

At the same time, this group of UG students develops a project oriented to fight industrial spills using the lily, where they first dry this raw material and create a "pad" that can be used to absorb the industrial materials in the oceans or rivers. They have taken this proposal to companies, who already place orders to absorb several non-favorable products for the environment.

The purpose of this group of college students is that their knowledge not only allows them to obtain a personal or professional benefit, but that their proposals also have a positive impact in the environment and the economy of the communities.
