topadas-cientificas-impulsan-proyectos-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., April 21, 2018.- With the purpose to boost and develop the knowledge, there was a program "Topada de bandas científicas" of the University of Guanajuato (UG).

This program was conceived as an academic space to encourage the scientific entrepreneurism of young high school and college students, by generating projects in self-managed multidisciplinary teams with the main objective to create a social change between the student community that has an impact in their immediate environment.

At the award ceremony of the event, five projects were presented. These projects were generated by 35 students from HS Celaya, HS Centro Histórico León, HS León, and HS Moroleón and college students from the four campuses of the University of Guanajuato.

After they presented thee projects, the students received financing from the Direction of Support for Research and Postgraduate of UG for its development.

The team "Biofungi" received the amount of $50,000.00 to start a sustainable project that consists in creating a biofuel made with wheat that can be used as fuel for transportation.

One of the main motivation when making the project was that, biofuels offer a better energetic security and a reduction in the demand of oil, plus, they were motivated by the fact that Guanajuato is one of the main state wheat producers.

The students of the University of Guanjauato who participated in the "Topada de bandas científicas" worked for 30hrs in developing a multidisciplinary and self-managed project focused in generating a social change in the student community and their everyday life.

The projects were evaluated and received feedback by a jury of experts formed by researchers and scientists of the University of Guanajuato, who after analyzing the proposals, they determined the financial support for every team.

The selected projects must present results in the Institutional Summer Congress of Scientific Research and –besides "Biofungi"—they are: Project "Error404" with $10,500.00; Project "PAI" with $14,000.00; Project "Nopal Mucilage" with $30,000.00; and Project "VEV" with $5,000.00

It is important to mention that the evaluating committee was formed by: Dr. Jesús Martínez Patiño; Dr. Alma Hortensia Serafín Muñoz; Dr. Rafael Guerrero; Dr. Juan Manuel Belman Flores; Dr. Gustavo Niz Quevedo; Dra. Lorena del Carmen Álvarez Castañón; and Dr. Guillermo Caballero.
