Guanajuato, Gto., April 26, 2018.- From April 25 to 27, in the different venues of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities (DCSH) at Campus Guanajuato of the University of Guanajuato (UG), the activities of the "I Colloquium from and since Hellenistic Philosophy. The art of living and the search for ataraxy" will begin.

The rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, inaugurated the works of this encounter organized by students of the division; the event gathers colleagues of the autonomous universities from Zacatecas, Querétaro, Guerrero, Benémerita de Puebla, Veracruzana, de México, Iberoamericana and La Salle.

Dr. Rendón highlighted that the colloquium comes from the interest of the students for Hellenistic philosophy and seek to generate an space for the exchange of this theme, in an intense three-day program, where students and outstanding speakers will participate not only from different parts from the country, but from different realities and schools.

"Events like this, constitute an stimuli to the essential reflection, national and local, about the foundations about western philosophy in the melting pot of voices and thoughts that resonate from the agora to today", said the Rector, who considered that a fundamental reflection in the globalization era, where the instant access to information from internet, should never stop the deliberation, the dialogue and the introspection.

Dr. César Federico Macías Cervantes, DCSH's Director, said that amidst the social rancor and the despair the youth live, the reflections that could emerge from here are essential and so transcend the academic walls and reach wider sectors in society.

Dr. Rodolfo Cortés del Moral was also present at the opening ceremony, he is the Director of the Department of Philosophy, who also highlighted the importance of the subject of the colloquium, to evaluate and rethink what constituted a recovery sign of the formative sense of philosophy.

"Today there is the idea that the degrees, even the humanistic ones, must be updated in the sense of incorporating to the productive schemes of society and that history is somewhat an expendable complement or even an obstacle", lamented the philosopher.

In that sense, he celebrated that the college students retake their history and don't forget the thinking from different eras; and highlighted the significant fact that the first colloquium of this thought current, is initiated, organized and developed by the own students.

In her opportunity, the student José Alberto Ramírez Tamayo, president of the Colloquium's Organizing Committee, revealed that the idea came while seeking spaces and encounters where to talk and discuss an specific period about western philosophy. At the opening ceremony, was also present Dr. Cuauhtémoc Nattahí Hernández Martínez, Coordinator of the Master's in Philosophy.
