León, Gto., May 2, 2018.-  Actions like carpooling heading the same direction, turn the lights off when they are not needed and activities in benefit of a sustainable future, haven been the encouragement of Alicia Sarahí Plascencia Castro, a student of Sustainable Chemical Engineering at the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León, because she wants to be a member of a distinguished group of young people called "mentis" from the German agency "Engagement Global".

The agency is comprised at the same time by the "Key Partner" program, established by UNESCO and the Network of Experts of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Sarahí is advised by Dr. Edgar Vázquez Núñez, professor-researcher of the Division of Engineering of Campus León at UG, who since last year has been her mentor in the project "Energetic awareness in the Bajío", which pretends for the young people to know the actions and measures they can adopt to take care of the energy; to diminish the pollution indexes, greenhouse effect, as well as generating clean energies.

Sarahí addresses other topics like promoting professional degrees such as engineering between high school students and divulging the 2030 agenda of the seventeen objectives for sustainable development of the UN.

About the work 20 young people do called "mentis", Sarahí mentioned that they have meetings and virtual discussions, Project Management activities and education for sustainable development.

Mexico's team is formed by 5 young people, Sarahí is the only student from Guanajuato and the youngest, with only 22 years old, the rest of the "mentis" are from Xalapa, Colima, Mexico City and Monterrey.

At the same time, she mentions that, derived from the negotiations Dr. Vázquez has made, this year's ESD will be held on León from May 29 to June 3 in the venue Forum of Campus León; the encounter will receive people from Germany, South Africa, India and Mexico, there will be courses, talks, conferences, discussion groups and an activity called Market Place, where the mentors and mentis will show their projects made for the last six months.
