egresada-ug-protagoniza-cortometraje-que-se-exhibira-en-cannes-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., May 4, 2018.- The graduate from the University of Guanajuato (UG), Ivanna Tovar stars the short film-documentary "Noches de Teatro" (Theatre nights) by the young filmmaker Ignacio Quijas, which was selected to be showed in the 71st edition of Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the most mediatic and renowned events in the word of cinema.

"Noches de Teatro" tells the story of Ivanna, reflects about her everyday life, fight and struggles as a young transgender in Guanajuato while she leads the rehearsals of "Noches de cabaret" (Cabaret nights), a play she also stars and that she made for the fifth anniversary of her group "La cabaretera escénica".

This short film was part of the college contest "Identidad y pertenencia" 2017, within the program of the Guanajuato Film Festival.

In an interview, Ivanna Tovar mentioned that in the film "you can see all the preparations for the fifth anniversary of my theater group and they also show a part of my story: a trans woman in a conservative state such as Guanajuato."

She continued saying that this cinematographic work has given them great satisfactions, both to her as the star character and all her team, "it has had participation in the International Film Festival of Celaya, the International Queer Film Festival in India and now it will be in the Short Film Corner of Cannes. How would I know that at 23 I was going to be the star a short film-documentary, it is just so exciting for me."

To finalize, UG's graduate gave a message to all young trans to continue with their dreams: "these words are for everyone who are going through this process, for this path can often be tough, hard, and continuously make you doubt yourself all the time."

"I just want to tell you to be loyal, faithful and strong to your dreams and to the reflection you want to see every day. That will give you enough energy to face the problems that can come through. Perhaps, the panorama or the context is not the best, dreams always standout and find the wings to fly higher every time."

Notably, Ivanna Tovar is officially the first transgender person in graduating from the University of Guanajuato, an institution she defines as an inclusive, safe and respectful space.
