Guanajuato, Gto., May 4, 2018.- Last month one of the greatest and renowned physicists in the XX century passed away, Prof. Stephen Hawking.
His last article was recently published in the Journal of High-Energy Physics in collaboration with his colleague, the physicist Thomas Hertog, in which they propose the theory that the universe is finite. They explain that the universe is in large scale reasonably smooth and globally finite. The last article of one the greatest in physics opens new paths in the world of scientific research.
The emeritus researcher of the National Researchers Team (SNI) and professors at the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Octavio Obregón remembered Stephen Hawking after a month of his passing.
Dr. Obregón collaborated with Prof. Hawking in his quantum cosmology studies when he was in a research stay at Cambridge University, "I thought of applying the supersymmetry to quantum cosmology, one of the problems of the beginning of the universe". Hawking's collaborator and colleague, Peter D' Eath visited Mexico to work and discuss about the supersymmetry, he then was invited to spend some time at Cambridge University and work directly with Hawking.
"It was in 1992 when we interacted, he was a brilliant man. In that time, he already couldn't talk, he took words from a computer, selected and put them together in phrases. He gave a command to the computer and he spoke through a software. Every afternoon we drank tea and then we spent the nights discussing and working", mentioned Dr. Obregón.
UG's renowned researcher remembered that Hawking had a very good sense of humor and another aspect he thought interesting were the precise ideas he had when communicating. "He learned to think in a synthetic war, with an acute intelligence to then interact with people and reflect their ideas and thoughts. After that visit in 1992, I returned to Cambridge University in 2002 and that time we had a relationship more social rather than academic."
To finalize, UG's professor sent a message to the young scientists to take the Hawking's determination as an example, also his energy, love for life; and exhorted them to work with honesty and passion with the science they dedicate to.
In 2018 (year of Hawking's passing), is 30 years of the publication of one the books that changed the path of the scientific divulgation: "A brief history of time".
