In an interview, Ivanna Tovar mentioned that during her college studies she defined her expression and identity "an identity that suffered an internal and external metamorphosis. And that was supported and backed in every step by her closest cores, including the University of Guanajuato that always offered me a safe and respectful space".
Discrimination is still a problem, besides homophobia there is also transphobia and biphobia, however, there has been many progresses on the matter like changes in the regulations to register transgender people or marriage between the same gender, just to mention some.
In that sense, Ivanna Tovar mentioned "we need to understand that we go through different battles: psychological, sentimental, physical, personal and accompaniment. The challenge is higher in a conservative context within a macho country. But as complicated as the panorama can get, I believe that loyalty, recognition and character you have to yourself and your dreams, you'll have the answers and tools to move on."
"The International Day against homophobia, lesbophobia and transphobia" reminds us that there still a lot to do to eradicate violence and discrimination and live in a society of wellbeing.
