Look at the stars and not at your feet. Try to understand what you see and ask yourself what makes the universe exist. Be curious.

Guanajuato, Gto., May 11, 2018.- An observatory is a space that gives us the opportunity to bring us closer to the enigma, but also to make an activity that gets forgotten every day: contemplation. In a world where the perception of time is accelerated, contemplation has become an ostentation we can acquire with no cost at the observatory "La azotea" (the roof) of the University of Guanajuato (UG).
An observatory is a place to see the celestial phenomena with precision, these places exist since ancient times and with the progress of technology, now, they are places in which you can still solve some mysteries of the universe.
The Observatory "La azotea" of UG's Department of Astronomy open its doors again to the public after a remodeling process to provide a better service to the university community. At the re-opening of such space, Dr. Héctor Bravo-Alfaro mentioned that with this they renew the bond of the university community and society in general; he thanked the support from the University of Guanajuato for making possible the remodeling and invited everyone to visit the observatory, which works as the sun goes down, so anyone can see the sky through a telescope.
Dr. Bravo-Alfaro spoke a little about the history of the university's observatory that has more 50 years doing activities related with astronomy. He reminded that the engineer Miguel Izaguirre was who had the initiative to occupy this place to make amateur observations, "he was an astronomy enthusiast. Later, when he funded the Department of Astronomy we began to negotiate to have activities in this terrace".
He made it know that until now the observatory has been the venue for many projects of scientific divulgation: "now we have the ninth course of astronomy for professors, and soon we'll renew the morning visits for elementary and high schools. Plus, "La azotea" is open for the public so they can come and make observations during the night. It is a space at the service of the community", said the also professor-researcher of the University of Guanajuato.
The renowned astronomer and scientific divulger, Carl Sagan, many times refers that the cosmos makes us thrill "we feel a tingling sensation, we are nervous... as if it were a distant memory, as if we were falling from high", to have these sensations, the observatory "La azotea" is the option, it is anyways, a good space to explore our curiosity and approach science.
It is worthy to mention that the re-opening was entertained by students of the Department of Music of the University of Guanajuato, who played a repertoire of classical pieces that captivated the attendants.
At the ceremony were also present: The Director of the Department of Astronomy, Dr. Carlos Alanias Rodríguez Rico; the Director of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences, Dr. Agustín Ramón Uribe Ramírez; the Academic Secretary of the latter division, Dr. Alfonso Trujillo Valdivia; representing the rector of campus Guanajuato, Dra. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta; attended M. Miguel Ángel Cervantes Flores, Legal Advisor of the Campus.
