ug-reivindica-compromiso-social-en-noreste-del-estado-ugtoTierra Blanca, Gto., May 14, 2017.- With the project "Sefi" (hive, in otomí) the University of Guanajuato (UG) showed its social commitment in three communities in the northeast of the state, where college students made their skills, values and dexterities available for the population.

This project is focused on using the talent of the college community to make social impact actions. So, students and professors from different disciplinary areas put their knowledge in practice and work collaboratively to benefit the inhabitants of vulnerable zones.

By initiative of the Academic Department of UG, they eased the attendance of students from the four campus, who for week were in communities at Tierra Blanca to live an experience that strengthened their constructive attitude, by focusing in solving socially relevant problems.

The richness of this program was facing different knowledge, considered Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo, Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, who closed the works and spoke with all the participating members, who were enthusiastic and motivated for this opportunity to serve.

Griselda Sánchez Lemuz, a delegate from Peña Blanca II, thanked the college students who developed the project "Madre Tierra", which reinforced the empathy and the community union through the recovery of the community park and court. "You'll be in our heart", she said, when acknowledging they planted the seed of social participation.

With the project "Nöts´ansipi" (messengers in otomi) students from the four campuses implemented in the elementary school "Justicia Social" of the community of Peña Blanca II, activities to prevent alcoholism and drug addiction using a reflection mailbox and a channeling workshop and support networks.

With an environmental focus, students of the project "La Vida de Croot", they went to the community "Fracción del Cano", where they worked with the pre-school and elementary school students to teach the children the importance of taking care of the environment.

To promote reading and writing among the children, the students applied the project "Cactalec", motivating them to write stories with animals as characters highlighting their values from the region they live in.

"Ya Döta Pe" (large biznagas) inspired the students to present a play, to encourage children to continue passing the knowledge to preserve the giant cactuses that give identity to the region of Cieneguilla and Tierra Blanca.

With "Imagina y construye tu entorno" the visitors worked with the people of the Fracción del Cano, where they invited 23 adults and 70 children to a prospection exercise, visualizing how to improve their environment. The exercise helped the consensus between the people to have a place to spend time with the family and obtain rainwater.

"Mbo´i Sefi" (beehive) was the proposal of another group of college students to teach in the elementary school "Miguel Hidalgo" things about posture hygiene to prevent injuries and pain, as well as dynamics to apply the assertive communication.

"Na hyatsi Nt´axi" (clean sunrise) was the project implemented in Peña Blanca II to raise awareness with the example of separating and recycling garbage. Lastly, the young students cleaned a hot-water birth place in Cieneguilla, called "El Baño", where they used to have ancient rituals.
