Guanajuato, Gto., May 15, 2018.- José Refugio López Vázquez, who belongs to the Direction of the High School College (CNMS) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) has backed students of the state of Guanajuato to obtain medals in the Olympics of Informatics for thirteen years.
In this 2018 edition, Guanajuato participated with four high school students, two from middle school and two from elementary school, which measured their knowledge with 102 students from 26 states; as well as 15 students from middle school and 15 students from elementary school from all the country.
The eight students from the state of Guanajuato obtained gold medals (the competition delivers 19 gold medals in total). It is important to mention that this is the firs time a state obtains this amount of gold medals in a single competition.
They also obtained the first place as state, same place obtained in 13 of the last 15 editions.
The high school and middle school students will continue preparing to try and obtain a place for the International Olympics of Informatics, which will be held in Azerbaijan in 2019.
The advisor José Refugio López, who during thirteen hours of the 23 editions has participated, has been fundamental in the achievements for the achievements of the state of Guanajuato, that has obtained 41 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. With the support of the Research Center for Mathematics, A.C. (CIMAT) and UG have made the state stand out in this international and national competence; achievements that are the result of the collaborative work, which allows Guanajuato to occupy the first place in the nation due to the number of medals.
