May 16, 2018.- To encourage a dialogue between national and foreign scholars with different technology-based companies and encourage the innovation to have an impact in the society, the iTheseus symposium began at the University of Guanajuato (UG) in the Division of Engineering.

The Director of the Division of Engineering, Dr. Victor Ayala Ramírez invited all the participants in the "iTheseus 2018 Symposium on Innovation, Technology as a Social Engine for University Significance" that all initiatives of action have a vision to create value in projects towards society.

This gathering had the presence of the leaders of the VIDA UG ecosystem, they exchanged experiences in the technology transference with the purpose for the university to be significant for the country's, state's and city's social and economic development.

In the opening act, the Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo, expressed that the challenge is to form a partnership of universities in Mexico to share challenges and encourage transformation. That requires young talent, since the transformation of our environment must be encouraged by visionary leaders and by universities.

One of the conferences that generated a great interest, was the one from an anthropologist and doctor in social sciences, the Chilean, Ronald Cansino Salas, expert in complexity, science, technology and culture who came to share his experience.

The professor from the Universidad de la Frontera of Chile, mentioned that one of the main debates in Latin America is the capability that science and technology must give reason about the productive requirements and more competitive, but also the need to realize certain social, patrimonial and territorial problems. Science has that double tension, hence, both models of politics and science management have that challenge, he said.

Today, in the so-called society of knowledge, whose main feature is based on a technological and industrial pattern, as well as installing knowledge as a mechanism to control every interaction and generate great transformations, it forces to re-think the logic of the regional and industrial development, the role of science and technology. At the same time, this forces you to think on the complexity of society and makes us reflect and experience models of analysis from the social-scientific complexity.

The Academic Secretary of Campus León, Dr. Lorena del Carmen Álvarez agreed that it is moment to discuss how the universities must be the axis of innovation, convinced of social and digital transformation that can be done from the university through science and technology.

The symposium was inaugurated by the Rector of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, who thanked the presence of the leaders from CINERGIA UG, INNOVA Technopark, and VIDA UG, who represent the fusion of multiple intelligences to articulate resources and capabilities in favor of innovation.
