Guanajuato, Gto., May 18, 2018.- Students from the HS Centro Histórico León had an outstanding participation in the Regional Technovation Challenge 2018 in the city of Guadalajara.
The application "FemAlert" was awarded with the second regional place, with which they seek to reduce the index of street harassment. The team is comprised by the students María Luisa Torres Vázquez and Yuritza Quijas Morales (next to an interinstitutional team comprised by Fernanda Torres, Ytzel Quijas & Mirna Contreras) with the advisory from the teacher Frida Xiomara Reyes Velázquez.
The other two participant applications were "Bicikloapp" by the students Denisse Parada Longoria, Vanessa Garnica Mejía and Diana Sofía Ascencio García with the advisory of the professor Fernando Torres Pérez, the app promotes urban cycling for women. Lastly, the application BloodTies of the student Estefanía Saucedo Tamayo and an interinstitutional team, promotes the donation of blood making a patient-donor link.
This event seeks to empower women between 12 and 18 years of age, in topics of technology, specifically in coding skills to solve social problems through the design of a mobile app.
The event was held in the University Center of Economic Administrative Sciences (CUCEA) of the University of Guadalajara where 30 teams from 3 states of the republic (San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato and Jalisco) presented the results of more than four months of work, through the expo and pitch of the mobile apps.
The event had three themes that framed the participant projects: Sustainable cities, Health and wellbeing, and, Security, Education and Culture. The students of the HS Centro Histórico León participated in the first two categories. It is worthy to mention that it is the first year they are a part of and the main objective is to promote the integration of more women in science and technology.
The event also had a program of conferences taught by known personalities of the world of technology such as HP, Intel and Oracle, the main message was to highlight the importance of diminishing gender barriers in the use and development of technology.
