León, Gto., May 18, 2018.- The professor-researcher of the Department of Organizational Studies of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Cecilia Ramos Estrada gave a conference in the activities of the Forum of Responsibilities and Social Responsibility.
Such forum was organized by the State Committee of Patronages and Volunteers of the Health Department of the State Government with the objective to strengthen the volunteer work done in the health units, by encouraging the regulation of the organizations of the civil society and the continuous training in volunteer management.
For such reason, Dr. Cecilia Ramos Estrada spoke about "Conformation and management of the Organization of the Civil Society (OSCs)". At first, she described the characteristics of these organizations that are private entities, it means, separate from the government.
She continued highlighting that they are autonomous and trained to control their own activities and that they also do not distribute among their associates the profits from the activities made which are volunteer and in collaboration with the citizens.
Then, the professor of the University of Guanajuato mentioned the panorama of the Organizations of the Civil Society in Mexico and referred to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) from 2014 where they had 60,205 non-profit organizations registered and from these, only 11.7% were in health and social assistance. These organizations are also called support to third parties.
She remarked that from every 100 volunteers, only 8 collaborate in health care, so it is important to raise awareness in the population to consider the health sector and collaborate in strengthening an indispensable service for society.
Likewise, she mentioned there are many aspects that need to be done for OSCs to enrich the knowledge of topics of transparency, accountability and project management. As well as divulging their mission, vision and values. In addition, she mentioned that it is important to improve the internal management and structure of the organizations.
The event took place in the auditorium of the State Center of Transfusion Medicine, so the conference represented a focus for associations constituted legally and collaborative groups in units of the Department of Health of the State of Guanajuato.
