Guanajuato, Gto., May 29, 2018.- The Acting Group of the University of Guanajuato will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a tour where they will present the theater play "Mujeres de arena" (Sand women).
For two decades the Acting Group has been led by Alonso Echánove so the celebration is an homage to the actor. The tour begins on May 30th at 20:00hrs at the Teatro Principal.
"Mujeres de arena" is a sensitive theater report play written by the dramaturge Humberto Robles, who through artistic creation supports the movement of families of missing or murdered women.
The play is dedicated to the memory of Pavel González, a 21 years old student and social fighter who was murdered in Mexico City on April 23, 2004, hence the motto on stage: Against oblivion and impunity!
"Mujeres de arena" shows the testimony of four women, femicide victims in Ciudad Juárez, besides the testimonies, the play inserts reading poems of several authors. Likewise, an actor is giving umbers and facts about the murders of women and the null action of the Mexican government to eradicate these crimes.
The director of the Acting Group of the University of Guanajuato, Alonso Echánove, has mentioned that the play is a calling to raise awareness about violent acts against women. He said that one of the greatest challenges of this play is to transmit to the audience what the victims and their families felt in that moment.
In this sense, "Mujeres de arena" represents a theater that adheres to the social responsibility and fight against injustice. The play expresses that the pain, impunity and fear sometimes paralyze, but sometimes give extra strength to fight.
After the beginning of the tour in the Teatro Principal of the city of Guanajuato, the Acting Group will present the play in the cities of Cortazar, Dolores Hidalgo, San Luis de la Paz, Valle de Santiago and Santa Catarina, to finish on June 14th with a show in Teatro Juárez at 19:00hrs with an homage to Alonso Echánove.
It is important to mention that Echánove is from Guanajuato, winner of the Ariel award and uncountable prizes, with movies such as "Mentiras Piadosas" and "La vida conyugal".
The director Alonso Echánove began his carrier in the Theater Company of Guanajuato, and began in the first edition of the International Cervantine Festival with the "La Ilustre fregona", "Bodasa de sangre" and "Numancia". He received a scholarship to go to Xalapa, Veracruz, where he joined the Atenaum Company where he participated in "Las brujas de Salem", "Atlántida", "Sopa de Pollo", just to mention some theater plays.
He then traveled to Mexico City and participated in "Moctezuma", "Intimidad", "La Lección de la Sábila" and "Ahi viene Pedro Infante".
