ug-fomenta-cultura-del-buen-trato-ugtoLeón, Gto., May 31, 2018.- Students of the Medical Surgeon degree of the University of Guanajuato (UG) gathered to learn concepts and processes of attention in which professionals of this guild are involved, and that have an impact on the health of the patients.

Dr. Elia Lara Lona, coordinator of the degree of medical surgeon of UG's Campus León, was in charge of inaugurating this event in which she commented that it is necessary to add efforts to obtain better results in the clinical practice.

The specialists who attended the workshop were Dr. Ernesto García Caratachea, State Commissioner for Conciliation and Medical Arbitration (CECAMED); Dr. Yessica Mireles Zavala, Technical Secretary of the Institute of Public Health of the State of Guanajuato (ISAPEG); Dr. Fernando Contreras Zavala, Director of planning, teaching and research of the Regional High Specialty Hospital of the Bajío (HRAEB) and Dr. Manuel José Rivera Chávez, Coordinator of Internal Medicine of phase II of the degree of medical surgeon, who They addressed topics such as assertive medicine, patient safety model, experience in hospital certification and shadow studies from the perspective of quality processes.

In the same way, they addressed aspects in which physicians should emphasize to improve care, as well as the empathy that should be shown both with the sick and with their families to reduce their recovery time and provide timely, complete and clear information.

Dr. Manuel Rivera said in an interview that one of the points in which we work to improve attention is the communication that is generated between the doctor, the patient and their relatives or companions, "I consider it necessary to be clearer in the medical prescription and surgical indications," he said.

He added that "the culture of safety is patient-centered, however, the family member is an important part of the health-sickness circle in patients, so it is that family members must be aware at all times of the conditions in which their relative is."

He also pointed out that the safety culture is based on following the best clinical practices attached to the highest quality standards and following the routes that are safer for the patient.

Dr. Fernando Contreras, Director of planning, teaching and research at HRAEB said that students in training should take into account safety barriers to avoid incidents that put them at risk and who they attend.

In addition, he noted that "during the care processes there may be an incident so it is important to empathize with patients and their families to be active in decision making, to have their consent to perform the procedures and treatments proposed to compensate for their clinical discomfort. "

Dr. Yessica Mireles noted that UG is a pioneer in including quality and safety in the patient, in addition to the preparation of students should know the safety model of the General Health Council with hospitals in the state of Guanajuato are implementing processes to avoid harm to patients, "this is important for students because they are formed and prepared for when they leave or are inserted in hospitals know the concept of security."
