Guanajuato, Gto., May 31, 2018.- The Direction of Cultural Extension of the University of Guanajuato invites to the Alfaguara Cycle of Ancient Music 2018 to be held from June 4 to 12 in the Pinacoteca of the Temple of the Company.
This cycle began in the year 2015 and since then has achieved its goal of disseminating music from the 9th to the eighteenth century. The ancient melodies are interpreted with a previous historical investigation, which enriches its value because it transports the listeners to a genuine journey to the past that allows to know and to enjoy in the present of the chords of ancient times.
The first concert will be in charge of the emblematic group "The Past Times" that has 46 years of experience with the main purpose of recreating musical art from antiquity to the current era, whose reflection is the unusual mixture of ancient and modern instruments.
"The Past Times" will offer the inaugural concert on Monday, June 4 with the intention of exploring the incognito past of other times whose message and wealth have not been extinguished.
On Tuesday, June 5, the ensemble "Los Tonos Humanos" will be presented, which emerges as an intimate musical concept: a small group aimed at reduced spaces and publics in order to interpret with replicas of instruments and historical criteria the Repertoire Musical from the Middle Ages to the Spanish Baroque and NoVo Hispanic mainly.
"Il Furore" is the name of another ensemble that will participate in the Alfaguara cycle of ancient music 2018. This Hispanic-Mexican group provides a fresh proposal for a little-known and little-executed repertoire in Mexico. "Il Furore" manages to evoke the sonorities of the 17th and 18th century music, through a rigorous study of music from a historically informed perspective. The concert of this ensemble will be on Wednesday, June 6th.
Finally, an organ concert will be held by José Francisco Martínez Rodríguez, organist, composer and choir director. The organist maintains an intense activity that has taken him to participate in important festivals like the International Festival Cervantino, the International Festival of organ of Guanajuato, National Festival of organ of Tlaxcala, Cultural Festival of March Lagos de Moreno, Jal., XII International Festival of Advent and Christmas songs in Budapest, Hungary, and X International Festival COREARTE, in Barcelona, Spain.
He is currently Director of the choir of the University of Guanajuato, the choir of the school of Upper middle Level (ENMS) of Guanajuato and the choir of the Oratory of San Felipe Neri, as well as holder of the tubular organ of that temple and artistic Director of the Week of Sacred Music of Guanajuato.
