Guanajuato., June 6, 2018.- Students of the degree in Digital Arts at the Campus Irapuato-Salamanca of the University of Guanajuato (UG) were the winners in the documentary category of "Carpe Diem 2018", a forum of cinematographic expression that promotes the encounter between filmmakers, both emerging and professional creators and filmmakers.
The team of the University of Guanajuato made the short documentary called "The Memoirs of Gepeto" that tells the story of Don Felipe, a collector of toys that at the same time sells and repairs them to return them to life.
Juan Pablo Hernández, director of the documentary, mentioned in an interview that a toy store in an abandoned square in the city of Salamanca inspired him to tell the story of Don Felipe, who keeps his shop with antique toys and various collections.
He said that in view of the wave of violence in the state of Guanajuato, the film expression serves to sensitize people about positive social aspects. "The store is located in the first commercial plaza in Salamanca, a place that appeals to the nostalgia of the citizens and more in the toy store that is of the only locals that are still open" said.
The documentary production team made reference to the need for society to stop and look at people like Don Felipe who believes in the power of imagination and toys to continue creating a free and diverse world. The students of the University of Guanajuato mentioned that the documentary film is an authentic genre that sensitizes the population very much because it presents real stories.
The Forum "Carpe Diem" is a benchmark for new talents to develop in the world of short films with the aim of positioning the cinema as a tangible example of art, linked to thought and imagination.
