Guanajuato, Gto. June 14, 2018.- With the objective to encourage among the students the taste for the scientific activity in any of the disciplinary areas, at the University of Guanajuato (UG) began the 24th edition of the Scientific Research Summers where more than 700 students from several educational institutions of the country and the world participate.

During the inauguration of this event, the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino welcomed all the participants to these research summers, where he assured that these events increase the comprehensive formation of the participants that throughout these 24 editions have permeated in the life of more than one thousand students.

He thanked those who have made possible this institutional project that offers multiple possibilities of interaction, specially among professors and students which are the base of an educational institution.

He added that each one of the participants represents a different reality, that together acquire a sense and give relevance of what UG is, without forgetting that each participant must have calling, formation and decision for success.

The Director of Support for Research and Postgraduate of UG, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendivil said that this program is an effort from all the institution with the purpose to provide the students an approach to science.

He added that UG opens spaces to improve the scientific processes, from which the students are the stars; he affirmed that he hopes that they build the bases to create a better country "be clear that the fullness of the human being is achieved by providing service to the others", finalized Dr. Napsuciale Mendivil.

Dr. Fabiola León Galván, an outstanding researcher of Molecular Biology, on behalf the participant professors, said that UG is a pioneer institution in this important labor so the students can have a greater contact with science; so, she invited the students to use this opportunity and to result in positive actions for society.

On behalf of the participating students, Emerson Galindo Giraldo Londoño, mentioned that every summer has new experience that permeate in a personal, professional and academic manner, with new perspectives that allow the improvement of the participants.

The Institutional Program of the Scientific Research Summer will have a participation of 709 students distributed in four modalities.

In the first modality that works in the 24th Research Summer for the students enrolled in bachelor's degrees at the University of Guanajuato and the State of Tabasco, 430 students will participate from which eight come to the research summer thanks to an agreement of the State Council of the State of Tabasco, in which they were previously selected.

In the second modality, there is the 6th Research Summer for Excellence Students enrolled in a higher education institution of the country or abroad, with a total of 143 students, from which 18 are national students from Yucatán, Sonora, Coahuila, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Jalisco & Sinaloa.

In the same modality, 125 foreign students will participate, and they come from Colombia, Guatemala, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Malaysia, United States & Taiwan from 27 different educational institutions.

In the third modality, there is the 5th Scientific Research Summer for High School Students of the University of Guanajuato with 131 participants from the 11 high schools.

While in the fourth modality will be made the 2nd Liaison Summer where five students from government dependencies or industry will participate.

At the end, the Battle of Scientific Bands were held, a program that has the objective to encourage UG Students to generate knowledge through the scientific research, entrepreneurship, and innovation; where 20 students participated, and the result were 5 projects approved by the Evaluating Committee, that received financing for the development of the first stage of their project to be done during the summer.

The University of Guanajuato, in addition of the Institutional Scientific Research Summer Program, has an active participation in other programs both in the accepting students as sending students: in total, at least 806 more students participate in these programs, such as the Research Summers of the Mexican Academy of Sciences; the Summer of Science of the Central Region; the Interinstitutional Program to Strengthen the Research and the Postgraduate of the Pacific (Dolphin Summer); the State Research Summer of the SICES; the Scientific Research Summer-UJAT and the Jaguar Scientific Research Summer of the Peninsula of Yucatan.
