Celaya, Gto., July 17, 2018.- The work of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra is universal; the youth can understand the imagination, idealism, dreaming, humor and emotion that he put in the books, as long as there is an adequate guide, an accompaniment sustained Lic. Omar Arévalo Zarco, author of "The madness of the damned".
Professor of over 20 years in the Celaya HS and Academic Coordinator in the venue Sauz, Lic. Omar Arévalo is the winner of "Cervantes goes to high school", in the category Dramaturgy Project.
"The madness of the damned", is basically about imagining Cervantes when he enters the prison in Sevilla, and delve into his process of inspiration while he created "The ingenious Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha", explained Arévalo Zarco.
In his text, the high school professor plays with surreal, psychological elements and takes characteristics of the contemporary theater. The characters he is about to create appear to him, as well as some of his previous work; it is a speculation of this creation process that lived while he was in jail, he details.
The point is to capture the imagination, the idealism, dreaming, humor and emotion that Cervantes wrote on his work. He mentions that the most important part of the project "Cervantes goes to high school" is to create a companion for the students to get close to "El Quijote", a book –in his opinion—so mystified, that is read by very few.
Sustains that during high school at least in the system the High School College of the University of Guanajuato has, the youth, for the first time, "have to move the pieces of their own chess game". It is when they begin to work in their own creations, not only artistic, but in academic projects of several disciplines.
Like so, "they experience the trouble of doing so. This passion of Cervantes for writing is the passion that the youth have for art, dancing, writing, music, sports, or whatever. So, they can identify with this passion of the character, and see how, sometimes, amidst the most adverse situations, you can still be you. I think that is the message", affirms the professor.
Also, director of Theater Studio Harlequin of Celaya HS, a group with more than 40 years of history, highlights the importance of art in its different manifestations. Although not everyone does this activity, it is important to learn to value it, that we realize there is more to do or much more to enjoy than what is done every day. It is something we can teach from an early age, or in high school, and sticks for life.
In that sense, he emphasizes that to divulge the value of the literary work, is not enough to just say the author it important, but why he is important. This way, "The madness of the damned" focuses on point addressed by Cervantes and that are affordable to what the youth is experiencing in high school.
The work of Lic. Omar Arévalo will be led by the Prof. Eugenia Cano Puga, ascribed to the Department of Scenic Arts of the University of Guanajuato. On stage, the characters will be played by high school students, and they pretend to make a tour through different UG's venues.
