Celaya, Gto., July 16, 2018.- Students of the degree in Nutrition of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra of the University of Guanajuato created a cacao-based drink with high nutritional value called "Xocomayan", which was presented in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico in the XXXIII National Congress of the Mexican Association of Members of Faculties and Schools of Nutrition A.C. (AMMFEN) "We are what we eat".
"Xocomayan" is an innovative product presented by the students Blanca Guadalupe Rojas Rico, Javier Vásquez Vargas and Fabián Contreras Serrano, has a high nutritional value and social impact, since its ingredients help control the levels of sugar in the blood, which favors weight control and prevents ailments such as diabetes and hypertension.
This drink is 100% vegetable, high in fiber, elaborated on a base of cacao from the producers of this region of the country, plus chickpea, oatmeal, amaranth and prebiotics that favor the vowel movement and ease digestion. A 250ml bottle provides the enough amount of protein recommended by the FDA.
Hence, in addition of being good for the health of adults who drink it, if the project grows, it would be possible to favor the economy of the producers of cacao from the region of Tabasco and Oaxaca, since the cacao used for its production is 100% organic.
The product presented by the students in the congress had the motto "We are what we eat", it had a positive impact in the attendees, who, when tasted the drink, they suggested that the flavor and for being a drink elaborated only with national products, it can easily join the list of traditional beverages such as the "pozol oaxaqueño" and become part of it.
The students presented their product in the Convention Center Yucatán Siglo XXI; an event that gathered world class speakers, and exhibits from all around the country, specialists in nutrition who focused on a common objective: contribute to improve the quality of life of the society from a nutritional focus that impacts in the modification of behaviors that favor healthy lifestyles.
AMMFEN chose that southern city of the country to hold their congress where the projects were presented because they had the feature of being innovative and with possibilities of making a favorable impact in the health of the population from the nutritional point of view.
