dan-bienvenida-3-generacion-equidad-regional-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., August 1, 2018.- Authorities of the University of Guanajuato (UG) reaffirmed the social commitment of the institution by welcoming those who are part of the third cohort of the Regional Equity Program. This program provides support to students from marginal zones in the state, so they can obtain a degree in this university.

This time, the letters of admission were given to eighteen women and eight men, from cities such as Atarjea, Victoria, Ocampo, Tarandacuao, Coroneo, Acámbaro and San Diego de la Unión, among others.

At the ceremony, UG's President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino emphasized that the Regional Equity Program is possible thanks to the teamwork between distinct university areas, next to the support of the state government through the Department of Education of Guanajuato (SEG) and the generosity of who have made economic contributions to maintain the project, as well as UG's Patronage and the Supreme Court of the State of Guanajuato.

He added that it symbolizes UG's social commitment, that must materialize in providing education with quality, relevance and equity. We fulfill the university's mystic of a house of studies created "for the love of the un-inherited", said Dr. Guerrero, quoting the words of the former President Armando Olivares Carrillo.

Talking to the beneficiaries of the program, he reminded them that they earned a place in the institution for their merit and assured that their contribution will rise the University of Guanajuato.

On his part, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Eng. Eusebio Vega Pérez, who was in the event representing the governor, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez expressed his gratitude and acknowledgement to UG for promoting projects that favor the educational equity and inclusion, and who are part of the third cohort he exhorted them to use this opportunity.

Representing the beneficiaries, Adrián Guerrero Onofre from Purugua, in Jerécuaro, gave a message where he exposed the poverty of and thanked those who make possible this opportunity to improve his life, his family and his community.

The Regional Equity Program was created to provide access to the University of Guanajuato to students with low income with an outstanding academic career. Besides entering the educational program of their choosing, they don't pay enrollment fees, they receive an economical aid that complements their academic formation. In return, added to their academic commitment, they work in projects that contribute divulge the culture and traditions of their place of origin.

At the end of the ceremony, they made a tour by the stands where the students from the first two cohorts exposed their progress in their projects, which include the rescue of dance, handcrafts and gastronomy from different zones in the state. From 2016 to today, 73 students have benefited with the Regional Equity Program.

At the event were present university authorities, representatives from the state government and the university community, and the families of those who are the third cohort of the Regional Equity Program.
