-Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino gave his Annual Report and Welcome to Classes 2018

Guanajuato, Gto., August 15, 2018.- "The university is not a finished project, but a permanent effort", sustained the President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, during the Annual Report of Activities of the 2017—2018 period, where he shares the achievements of the university community.

During the ceremony, which is held at the same time as the official welcome to the school cycle, Dr. Guerrero Agripino revealed that the current administration, the enrollment increased 19%, and it was achieved thanks to different strategies, such as more spaces in some programs, more educational offer, multimodal education and implementing the regulated pass, among others.

One of the greatest achievements in the last year was the regulation reform, which implied the approval –from the University General Council—of 13 ordnances. On the matter, he reminded that most of the current regulations are from 1994 and 1997, and although in 2008 they were modified to provide viability to the new model of the university, it was necessary to harmonize all the legal instruments that hold the institution, in which reflects the respect for the human rights.

In addition, because of the census and awareness of the university community regarding the financial panorama of the higher education public institutions, they created a solidary auxiliary fond that guarantees the full payment of pensions and retirements granted by UG.

In accordance of the University's principles, it has sought to grow with quality and equity. A proof of that is the Regional Equity Program, that has received three generations in this administration, providing a space for 73 low-income students who from highly marginal zones. They have a direct entry to the bachelor's degree and receive an economical aid to pay for their lodging, food and transport expenses.

Dr. Guerrero highlighted the support from UG's Patronage, State Government and magisters of the Legal Power, and exhorted to sum volunteers to increase the budget of the program.

After acknowledging the academic personnel and student community that has positioned UG as one of the universities with more international and national prestige, the President recognized that one of the greatest challenges is the strategic connection to society, for which they created the Ecosystem of Liaison, Innovation, Development and Application of Knowledge (VIDA) UG.

Another important program that begun last year was "Conciudadanía UG", which focuses on preventing social factors of social violence through four axes: Culture of legality, Artistic appreciation, Culture of self-care and Interest for science.

To benefit the student community, the requirements for titling was reduced by 50% and the payments were suppressed. As a result, this year 3,700 degree-documents were handed, and the titling index increased a 77% in the current administration.

Likewise, they expedited the enrollment processes, and announced that starting next Monday, all payments for university services are available at ISSEG pharmacies and OXXO stores.

Likewise, he mentioned that graduates from this university can request an electronic certificate of studies, and from November they can also request the professional license, which eases the procedure and has shorter delivery times.

In his message, he emphasized that for a public university, the support from the head of the executive is fundamental, which is shown in the respect for the autonomy, fulfilling the subsidy and support in negotiating funds, as well as the accompaniment to carry out strategic projects, so he thanked Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez for his support to UG.

On his part, the Governor assured that the development of the states owes greatly to the contribution from UG and its graduates, professionals who outstand for their social commitment.

Previously, Dr. Marilú León Andrade offered a message on behalf of the academic community, where he said that the university work represents the opportunity to grow and provide knowledge in favor of a more just and equal society and reaffirmed his pride for being part of UG.

Also, the student Arturo Abraham Sosa López spoke about the privilege it is to be part of the meritorious institution and exhorted the university community to work together in favor of society.

At the event were present unipersonal authorities and representatives from all government organs of the House of Studies, legislators-former rectors, functionaries from the three levels of government and representatives of the different powers of the state, as well as from sister universities and associations of universities; academic and administrative personnel, and students.
