universidad-de-guanajuato-y-universidad-de-davis-en-california-buscan-colaboracion-ugto-ugGuanajuato, Gto., August 25, 2018.- Authorities of the University of Guanajuato, headed by the President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, met with a delegation of the University of California in Davis (UC Davis), chaired by the President Gary S. May, with the purpose of establishing the basis of an academic reunion.

In the framework of a session of the State Commission for the Planning of Higher Education in the state of Guanajuato (COEPES), Dr. Guerrero Agripino recalled that UG and UC Davis had an agreement, which lost its validity five years ago. He therefore pointed out that this meeting is the symbol of an academic reunion between two sister universities.

In his capacity as President of the COEPES and President of the UG, Dr. Guerrero argued that universities are not self-sufficient, so he stressed the importance of strengthening academic collaboration, held this meeting and said that it will be fruitful .

The meeting was organized by the National Association of Universities and Institutions of higher education (ANUIES) and constitutes a historical fact, because it is the first time that a Preisdent of the University of California in Davis visits the state, said Dr. Arturo Lara Lopez, Secretary of Innovation, Science and Higher Education.

Lara López, former Rector of the UG and graduate of UC Davis, said that the higher education system of this institution is one of the most successful in the world, a system difficult to match but very inspiring, he stressed. In addition, he noted that UC Davis is characterized by a major impact on the development of California and the United States.

The state official also expressed confidence that this meeting will establish the basis for a major and effective collaboration between UC Davis and the higher education system in Guanajuato.

At his opportunity, President Gary S. May shared that the University of California was founded in 1868, has 10 campuses and houses 238,000 students.

It is important to mention that the President of the UC Davis promoted a special tour to Mexico, the principal destination of student mobility for that institution with the purpose of strengthening bonds of collaboration particularly with three states: Aguascalientes, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí.

At the COEPES session, the UC Davis delegation knew the importance of this agency, the state's higher education system, and specifically that of the University of Guanajuato.

The meeting was attended by the Rector of the León Campus, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez; And the Director of international relations and academic collaboration of the UG, Dr. Sergio Silva Muñoz. Also, representatives of the State Government and a delegation of UC Davis.
