287 million pesos have been invested in infrastructure in the last year, 88% more than in the previous period

Guanajuato, Gto., a 22 de agosto de 2018.- In order to offer better conditions for the development of the substantive functions of the University of Guanajuato (UG), over the last year more than 287 million pesos were applied, to the enlargement and improvement of the infrastructure, which represents 88 percent More than in the previous period.

In addition to the building of new buildings, a priority aspect has been the optimization of spaces and the restoration and maintenance of historical properties, "We believe that UG must be an example in conservation of restoration and maintenance of heritage Cultural and historical buildings, "said the Director of Infrastructure and University Services, Mtro. Eloy Juárez Sandoval.

An example of this is the work that has been carried out in the former Hacienda El Copal, one of the venues of the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus, where recently opened a portico of the old town of the Hacienda, which dates from the eighteenth century.

University Museum getting ready

In this work of recovering historical spaces also highlights the restoration of a house that for three decades hosted the clinic of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in the city of Guanajuato, and in 2015 was delivered in loan to UG to create a university museum.

There, they have invested 16 million pesos, resources that were used to liberate spaces, consolidate walls, change roofs, build bathrooms; To fix hydraulic, electrical and sanitary installations, repair of stairs and the restructuring of the whole building-from the underground street-, among other works.

Currently, they are waiting to receive a federal contribution of $18 million pesos, which will be used to finish the electrical installations, put on the ground floor, fix the access stairs, and give the whole house finishes. This would be ready for-in the coming months-to start the first stage of the work, which is expected to be completed in 2019, the university official said.

He added that during the process of restoration of this house they have found very interesting architectural elements, as unusual constructive processes, which used horse hair; The original stables area of the house, walled arches and cupboards with quarry shelves. In addition, we investigated the historical part of the building, the uses it has had, how it has been transformed and who have been owners "to the furniture that has been located", he explained.

In that sense, he mentioned that the intention is that when visiting the University Museum the public can appreciate the exhibitions that are shown there, as well as the constructive processes of the building. "The house, which dates from the eighteenth century, alone is going to be a museum," emphasized the Director of infrastructure of the UG.

House of the Necromancer

Another important restoration project is the one that takes place in the birthplace of Ignacio Paulino Ramírez Calzada "The Necromancer", located in the center of San Miguel de Allende, which will be converted into a cultural enclosure.

It already has a project of restoration and adequacy of the spaces, endorsed by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). To do so, the foundation "United to Serve" committed a support of 2 million pesos and was responsible for bidding the work, which was already assigned to a contractor, so soon the work will begin.

However, the house is already open to visitors on a schedule from 9:00 to 18:00 hours. You can appreciate the architecture of the place, see where "the Necromancer" was born, to know some history and the mortuary mask, an artistic work that plays texts of the illustrious Sanmiguelenses.

University venues are dignified

The Director of Infrastructure and University Services explained that the resources earmarked for this sector have allowed the growth of the university campuses, and the maintenance of buildings and schools of higher middle level.

In addition, in this year, by indications from the General Rectory has been worked on projects: the dignifying of health services in all venues, and the reinforcement of institutional image and signage, which is intended to reinforce the feeling of membership and institutional pride.
