Guanajuato, Gto., August 28, 2018.- The Mexican writer, Juan Villoro, was appointed as the winner of the first Jorge Ibargüengoitia Award of Literature of the University of Guanajuato, which recognizes his trajectory as a writer for his outstanding work in the Mexican literary tradition.

The Jorge Ibargüengoitia Award of Literature was instated with the purpose to celebrate six decades of uninterrupted promotion of the book and reading, because this year, the Book Fair of the University of Guanajuato (FLUG for its acronym in Spanish) reaches its 60th edition and will be held from August 30 to September 9, at the patio of the Regional Museum of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas.

The prize receives the name Jorge Ibargüengoitia Award of Literature, in memory of this famous author from Guanajuato and in commemoration of his 90th birthday, and it will be granted to Juan Villoro within the FLUG and the University Cultural Festival of the University of Guanajuato.

The writer Juan Villoro was declared winner unanimously by the jury, for its outstanding trajectory in the chronic literary genre. The three specialists that formed the jury for the award in its 2018 edition were Dr. Norma Angélica Cuevas Velasco, professor at the Universidad Veracruzana, specialist in Mexican literature and literary thinking; Dr. Jorge Fabricio Hernández, narrator, chronicler and essayist with renowned work, specialist in the work of Jorge Ibargüengoitia; and Dr. Andreas Kurz, director of the Department of Spanish Letters of the University of Guanajuato.

As President of the Consultant Council of the Jorge Ibargüengoitia Award of Literature, and on behalf of the award's jury, the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, will hand the award to the writer Juan Villoro during the inauguration of the Book Fair and University Cultural Festival. In the same time, the members of the jury agreed to, for the writer Jorge F. Hernández be who expresses a semblance of the writer Juan Villoro Ruiz, during his award ceremony, which will be held in the inauguration of the book fair, Thursday August 30th at 11:00hrs.

The writer Juan Villoro, who is also a sociologist, has been editor of several Mexican magazines and has collaborated in different periods and supplements of culture; has written novels, stories, books about children's and youth's literature; theater, essays and chronic and literary journalism, reason why it has received multiple awards.

The award ceremony of the Jorge Ibargüengoitia Award of Literature for the writer Juan Villoro will be carried out in the facilities of the Regional Museum of the Alhóndiga de Granaditas, which will be the frame and place for book exhibitors and cultural events, from August 30th to September 9.
