Guanajuato, Gto, August 29, 2018.- Professor Fernando Torres Pérez, from the HS Centro Histórico León, attended the international program of Professors 2018 at CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research, for its acronym in French), in Geneva, Switzerland.
CERN is the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, which contains a circular throttle ring 27 km long to 100 m underground, passes through the Franco frontier border, accelerates particles at speeds close to that of light and makes them collide in 4 detection points, recreating the conditions of the Big Bang, to solve questions like where do we come from? What's the matter made of? What are the forces that govern the universe?
In this program, 45 teachers from 37 different countries were selected in a selection process with more than 1,000 applicants from around the world.
It is intended to bring modern science to classrooms around the world, specifically the latest discoveries in the field of particle physics, such as the Higgs boson, issues such as matter and antimatter, as well as being ambassadors of science and technology , to motivate the students and learn the real value of this in the daily life and in the progress of humanity.
In addition, it promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences through teachers of different nationalities, stimulate activities related to the popularization of physics beyond the classroom and also helps to establish a closer link between CERN and schools all over the world.
"It was an enriching experience where we have lectures with researchers from CERN, as well as visits to the facilities and particle accelerators where the experiments are carried out, in international matter we only attended two Professors from Latin America, an Argentinean teacher and I, "commented Professor Fernando.
Now Professor Fernando intends to apply the strategies acquired, as well as the current knowledge, since the academic programs do not contemplate the atomic models and the physics of current particles, date from the beginning of the twentieth century, as well as to show the Social importance of science and motivate young people to choose scientific careers.
