ug-tendra-maestria-en-genetica-forenseGuanajuato, Gto., September 7, 2018.- Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendon Huerta Barrera, rector of the Guanajuato Campus, inaugurated the work of the first State Congress of Forensic Genetics, where he announced the creation of a master's degree in this field, which will be taught at the University of Guanajuato (UG).

He noted in his message that the theme of this Congress is fundamental not only in academies but in everyday life, so within the new educational offer of the UG is already intended to offer, in the medium term, a degree in forensic sciences; but in the short term it is already designed a master's degree in this matter.

Since 2008 we have a new penal system, he recalled, although there are a lot of millennial systems that remained somewhat behind, but, from the year 2008 there is adversarial indictment process, in which the forensic scientific test is fundamental to proceed within this system.

Dr. Rendon stressed that forensic genetics as a science that supports the prosecution of justice focuses on the identification of persons associated with judicial processes and has in the legal field broad areas of application, such as the resolution of serious crimes, kinship evidence, identification of cadavers, historical figures, missing persons or those who die in catastrophes.

But the matter is so vast that it also serves to identify genetic profiles and narcotics that have plant origin, in identifying the genetic profile of domestic and exotic animals, and genetics has a fundamental role in criminal law and family law, just to cite two disciplines.

In this order, it will be indispensable to work on the training of experts who carry out the technical and scientific research necessary for research that is required by public ministries.

In the opening ceremony, was also present Dr. Agustín Ramón Uribe Ramírez, Director of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE) of Campus Guanajuato, who welcomed the attendees to the Congress; while Dr. Leandro Eduardo Astraín Bañuelos, Director of the Law Department of the Division of Law, Politics and government (DDPG), attended in the representation of the President of the UG, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.

In her message, Dr. Ixchel de la Luz Martínez, of the Latin American Society of Forensic Genetics, explained that this first Congress is endorsed by the University of Guanajuato, one of the 100 best in Latin America and already to fulfill three centuries of education, knowledge and science.

In this year 2018, he said, the Latin American Society of Forensic Genetics celebrates the 15 years of its society, in which it has consolidated as a leader organization and has experts in these areas, besides having databases and services like the identification of missing people, victims of accidents, crimes and natural disasters.

There are experts in chain of custody, protocols of action, bioethics, among others, all of them attached to universities, research centers, public prosecutors and laboratories of the private sector, so he hoped to achieve a fruitful collaboration with the University of Guanajuato.

Also, in the Presidium were, Dr. Jessica Carina Guzmán Alberto, Director of Laboratories for Scientific Research and Legal Advice, and among the attendees, young university students.

The topics that were developed in this first Congress, during September 6th and 7th, were: Molecular bases of the forensic genetics, statistical valuation of the genetic evidence, identification of human remains in clandestine graves and extraction of DNA in human remains. The workshop "Protocol of Action of the expert in the new system of Orality" was also carried out.
