Guanajuato, Gto., September 14, 2018.- With a total of 39 libraries and a digital collection with 169,190 titles, the library system of the University of Guanajuato (UG) has been consolidated as an important support for the student and teacher community of the institution.

Además de la implementación de mejoras para agilizar los servicios, actualmente el 100 por ciento de las bibliotecas que proporcionan préstamo externo cuentan con sistema automatizado, con lo cual se ha podido prescindir del uso de formatos y papelería.

One of the aspects that has been consolidated in UG is the access to information resources in electronic format, said the head of the library system of the UG, Lic. José Paul Tarín Hernández, who shared that it has 63 academic databases, more than 7000 journals, a database of dissertations and dissertations with 1.4 million of documents, reference bases relating to materials and protocols, among others.

All this for the benefit of a community that includes students of middle, upper and postgraduate level, as well as the professors and researchers of the maximum house of studies of the state. In addition, some of the services are available to the public, so it is estimated that the 39 libraries receive about one million one hundred thousand visitors annually.

In this regard, Lic. José Paul Tarín commented that the consultation of books in printed format has been maintained, and the texts in digital format have come to broaden or facilitate access to information. Even sometimes digital editions are enriched with multimedia resources or evaluations, which is very practical for students, exemplified.

He added that in the last year a system of discovery was incorporated, which allows-through a single search tool-, to obtain results from the bibliographic catalogue, which collects the records of all the stocks in printed in the libraries of the UG, The resources of the digital acquis and the institutional repository. "In this way we try to ease the users so that at the moment of making a search they do not have to enter to each one of the resources: to the catalogue, to the 63 resources, to the repository", explained.

The head of the UG library system recalled that services include loan-in-room and outside-of books, as well as laptops and tablets; Consultation service, access to cubicles and interlibrary loan service.

In addition, seminars and events are held where experts address a resource of information, such as the publication of scientific articles. The intention is that the Community has additional support in teaching, research and outreach, said Lic. Paul Tarín Hernández.
