Guanajuato, Gto., October 10, 2018.- With a call to consider scenarios that approach the utopia, as proposed by the works of Cervantes, and the desire for the popular culture of each people to twin humanity, the President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino welcomed the XLVI edition of the International Cervantino Festival (FIC).

During the ceremony that marked the beginning of the "feast of the spirit" that will take place from October 10 to 28, Dr. Guerrero Agripino recalled that in the middle of the last century the university community intertwined with its people to represent the "Entremeses" of Cervantes, which gave rise to the most important cultural festival in Mexico and Latin america.

He welcomed the guests of Honor: India, with its millennial character that merges with innovation, science and technology; and Aguascalientes, brother state that has given Mexico a great artistic and cultural legacy.

He also celebrated the recognition made to Graciela Iturbide "the photographer without haste" who has shared her visual poetry; And the playwright Luis de Tavira, "the man who was chosen by the theatre to invent worlds, events and to offer us testimonies of what is happening with the human being," said Dr. Guerrero Agripino.

He also expressed his respect to Cristina Garcia Zepeda for the work done at the head of the Ministry of culture, a position that is close to completion.

For his part, the governor of the state, Lic. Diego Sinhué Rodríguez Vallejo reiterated his commitment to cultural development and expressed his pride in having the most important cultural event in Latin America, "which projects us to the world."

Also, the Municipal president of Guanajuato, Lic. Alejandro Navarro Saldaña said that the Festival Cervantino is a living gift from Guanajuato to the world, and thanked the University Theatre of UG, which with its representations in the public square gave rise to Cervantino International Festival.

The secretary of Federal culture, Maria Cristina Garcia Zepeda said the scope of the project "Mtro Ruelas" – founder of the university theatre-has been enormous, because with this festival Mexico opens its doors to the universal culture.

At the inaugural ceremony, which took place at the emblematic Teatro Juárez, representatives of the State and the invited country were summoned; officials of the three levels of government and the public.
