Guanajuato, Gto., October 12, 2018.- Master Jesús Gallardo Carrillo leaves an important imprint at the University of Guanajuato.
For his career of more than 30 years at the service of UG and his contributions in the field of plastic arts, the General University Council approved to grant to Maestro Gallardo Carrillo the doctorate honoris causa in session last September 4.
Master Gallardo founded in 1953 the then School of Plastic Arts (today Department of Visual Arts), of which he also taught workshops drawing natural and painting, which allowed him to be the trainer of several generations of artists.
The artist of Guanajuato became one of the most established creators at national and international level. In an interview held last year, Gallardo recalled that he began his artistic career making engraving, drawing and painting. The renowned artist dedicated a large part of his life to work in his works, where the hills and landscapes were his main inspiration.
On his work, he said he had no favorite engraving, drawing or painting, but preferred to focus on the present, "My favorite work is the last thing I'm doing, the last topic."
Jesús Gallardo was born in the city of León, Guanajuato on December 11, 1931, had a life full of achievements that have been inherited from generation to generation and are recognized by the university community
Once the school of Fine Arts was established, M. Gallardo himself became the first director, under the rectory of the M. Antonio Torres Gómez. In that position he stayed for the next three decades, along which countless recorders and talented painters were formed, who have assembled 104 group exhibitions with work of students in Mexico, the United States, Argentina, Israel and Japan among others.
