León, Gto., November 9, 2018.- To form specialized human resources, to consolidate a program of particle accelerators in Mexico, as well as to generate knowledge, to develop technology and to provide solutions to the industry are part of the objectives of the third Mexican School of Particle accelerators that brought together students and national and foreign experts in the city of León, Guanajuato.

With the attendance of 36 students currently undertaking the last semesters of engineering and Bachelor of Physics, the Mexican School of Particle accelerators was held for the first time in the city of León where the students had a Training through theoretical and practical courses, as well as joint work sessions with experts from the United States, Brazil, United Kingdom and scientists from the University of Guanajuato (UG), the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and the Centre of Research and advanced studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV).

Dr. Georfrey Humberto Israel Maury Cuna, professor-researcher attached to the physics department of UG's Campus León and member of the organizing committee, commented in interview the importance of providing this space to students and form highly-qualified human resources to generate technology that provides specific solutions in different sectors with social impact.

He explained that "particle accelerators are a very versatile tool in science" that have applications in the health sector for the treatment of cancer patients and in the food industry to sterilize food.

He added that in the case of the environmental sector "can use a particle accelerator for wastewater treatment", also provide solutions in the automotive sector, it is a tool that is used in scientific research to know about the origin of the universe and also applies to national security issues in border areas to identify shipments and to study and preserve cultural heritage.

He emphasized that this school is a national benchmark and unique in its type, was held in the year 2011 and 2015 in the city of Guanajuato and this edition students from Mexico City, Mérida, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Morelos, Durango, Puebla, Morelia and Guanajuato met For five days to intensively address issues around electromagnetism, vacuum systems, instrumentation and control, particle sources, among others.

Finally, he said that they collaborate with scientists in the United Kingdom in a project that seeks to generate alternatives of solution for the treatment, tanning and finishing of skin products and that at the same time reduce the health risks in the employees, as well as affections in the Environment.

The organization of the event was run by the Mexican community of particle accelerators, the University of Guanajuato, the Physical Network of High Energies and the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
