Guanajuato, Gto., November 12, 2018.- An outstanding participation of the teams of the University of Guanajuato (UG) in the IX Volleyball "Abejas" Cup 2019 where they obtained the first and third place in the female and male categories, respectively. UG's athletes won the first places in the State Karate Championship held in Salamanca.
The objective of the "Abejas" Cup is to encourage the sport development of the representative teams of the UG promoting competitive spaces for the student community and favor spaces for healthy occupation in their free time.
The event has become a classic of varsity volleyball where important teams from different universities in the country attend to, such as the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), Universidad Veracruzana, Tecnológico de Morelia, Universidad Tecnológica Fidel Velázquez del Edo. de México, Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Escuela Nacional de Entrenadores Deportivos, among others.
The IX Volleyball "Abejas" Cup 2019 was held from November 8 to 11 in the courts at Fórum UG and Prof. Arturo Larios; here are the results:
Female category
1st. place Abejas UG
2nd. place Dragonas of UT Fidel Velázquez
3rd. place Halcones of U. Veracruzana
Male category
1st. place Halcones of U. Veracruzana.
2nd. place ENED (Escuela Nacional de Entrenadores)

They conquer important results in State Karate Championship
On the other hand, athletes from the University of Guanajuato (UG) razed the first places in the State Karate Championship that took place in Salamanca.
He highlighted the participation in kumite which literally means "interlace hands" or "combat" in Japanese, it is an offensive in which some of the techniques practiced are applied in a clash with an opponent.
Whereas the kata of karate, another of the modalities of the competition, are specific sequences ranging from the 20 to 70 (or more) movements depending on the degree of difficulty of the kata. Usually include combinations of hand and foot blows, blockages, checks, deviations, displacement, stomping, grips, some dislocations, pitches, sweeps, turns, jumps, disarmament against classical weapons, strangulations, tactical movements, breathing management and handling of the defense and attack rhythms.
The results obtained were as follows:
Daniel Tavares, 1st place in kata and Kumite. Category 60 kg.
Josué Muñiz, 1st place in kumite. Category 67 kg.
Kaori Hernández, 1st place in kumite in juvenile and major. Category 55 kg.
Diego Reyna, 1st place in kumite in juvenile and mayor. Category 55 kg.
Luis Enrique Pérez, 3rd in kumite. Category 75 kg.
With these results, sport is a fundamental piece in the integral formation of the students so that at the University of Guanajuato the practice of the sports disciplines is fomented and promoted for the benefit of their student community.
