
Guanajuato, Gto., November 23, 2018.- With the purpose of improving the academic processes and encouraging the reflective and critical thought, and as a reflection of the social commitment that characterizes the University of Guanajuato (UG), there was an installation ceremony of the UNESCO cathedra for reading and writing, and the third Encounter of Young high school Readers.
The President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino mentioned that this cathedra is a high-impact project, that links the high school subsystem with the four university campuses, which will impact not only in the house of studies, but beyond its walls.
In his intervention, the Coordinator of the Sub-Venue UNESCO Cathedra for Reading and Writing of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Aureliano Ortega Esquivel, said the social progresses and the transformations are made with books, so "we celebrate that reading and writing have stopped being the heritage of few and has become a mean for emancipation and democratization", and trusted that if learned correctly, they will allow the social and cultural re-binding "that screams for our suffered and battered humanity".
The student Ámbar Eugenia Gallardo, of the HS Centro Histórico León, shared her fascination for reading that "opened before me a whole new world of possibilities. I saw the books like a hideout far from my troubles, where everything I need exists and where I haven't looked for. I still see them like that", she said.
On her behalf, the General Coordinator of the UNESCO cathedra of the Universidad del Valle, Cali, in Colombia, Dr. María Cristina Martínez Solís, referred to the objectives of this project, that seeks to set the foundation of appropriation of knowledge and encourage an attitude of analytic and critic reflection that contributes to form ethic subjects.
At the event, they handed the medal of the cathedra to Dr. Guerrero Agripino, as a representative of the university community, and handed acknowledgements to high school teacher who have shone for their leadership in Promoting Reading Practices.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of the High School College (CNMS), Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona, representatives, professors, students and directors of the high schools and the four university campuses.
