Salamanca, Gto. November 28, 2018.- The leadership of the students of the engineering division of the University of Guanajuato (UG) is reflected in the formation of organized groups, as the most recent student chapter of the Association of Computational Machinery (ACM) that It promotes a greater interest in computer science and its applications.
The chapter that is chaired by Roberto García Guzmán, student of the seventh semester of the degree in computer systems was formally presented before authorities of the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus and the engineering division, who expressed their Support to the work of the organized groups.
The President of the chapter explained the benefits that university members are affiliated to the Association for Computing Machinery that brings together professors, researchers and computer professionals, which currently extends to more than 100,000 members in the world to increase the knowledge of the important technical, educational and social problems of the informatics.
As a sample of his work, ACM students convened a workshop and five lectures given by guests from the University of Veracruz and the University of Monterrey, organized as part of their activities for educational and scientific purposes.
The topics that were addressed during three days were: a Python workshop for beginners, and the lectures remote sensing systems, detection and classification of citrus fruits using spectral images and artificial intelligence algorithms; Identification of motion commands from brain waves for robot teleoperation; Unmanned aerial vehicle localization system for remote sensing applications using extended Kalman filter; System for the acquisition of micro electric signals for the diagnosis of patients using an ankle rehabilitation system, to conclude with the conference on FIR differential filters.
The student chapter of the ACM was officially created on March 12, 2018 with 19 members, who have participated in the organization of industrial visits, workshops, and serve as responsible for the local headquarters for the event called International Collegiate programming Contest (ICPC).
In the presentation of the student branch were accompanied by their advisor, Dr. Mario Alberto Ibarra Manzano and the coordinator of the degree in computer systems, Dr. Víctor Hugo García Capulín.
