The ceremony will take place on November 30th in solemn session of the H. General University Council in the city of Guanajuato
Guanajuato, Gto., November 27, 2018.- In a public and solemn session, the H. General University Council will award the distinction Doctor honoris causa of the University of Guanajuato to the outstanding researcher Dr. Octavio José Obregón Díaz.
This distinction represents the maximum recognition that the University of Guanajuato grants to the academics with a trajectory that exalts the prestige of this House of studies and that they have excelled for their contributions to the development of the science, the technology, the humanities, art and education.
In his research career, Dr. Obregón Díaz is characterized by having worked and contributed to scientific problems in diverse subjects such as gravitation, relativistic astrophysics, supergravitation, field theory and string theory. One of the contributions for what is most recognized, is for having proposed to use supergravity in quantum cosmology.
By introducing Supergravity, the latter is generalized to a "Dirac-type" equation, like how the usual quantum mechanics were generalized by Paul Dirac. Thus, the quantum universe acquires a richer description with multicomponent wave functions.
This idea was explored in various works with collaborators and drew the attention of Stephen Hawking, one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists of our time and perhaps the most recognized cosmologist. Dr. Obregón was invited to Cambridge, where he wrote a work in co-authorship with Stephen Hawking. So far, he is the only physicist in Latin America with whom Hawking has published.
Dr. Obregón Díaz, professor of the Department of Physics, at the Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG) and researcher emeritus of the National System of Investigators (SNI), will receive the medal and the recognition as Doctor honoris Causa of the hands of the President of the University of Guanajuato and President of the General University Council, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.
The ceremony will be held in the Hall of the H. General University Council of the University of Guanajuato, next Friday November 30th at midday in the city of Guanajuato.
