Celaya, Gto., December 6, 2018.- The Government of the state of Guanajuato, through the Ministry of Education, recognized Dr. Jonathan Alejandro Galindo Soto, professor at Campus Celaya-Salvatierra of the University of Guanajuato, as a distinguished collegiate professional 2018, for his contributions within the field of psychology, particularly for his research on "Psycho-emotional needs of the elderly hospitalized in the public sector".

In this study it was found that patients, especially women, need support to reduce anxiety and strengthen their self-esteem, while the levels of depression are not as high as could be expected. From this study, the professional proposed a useful tool to improve the psychological care and to make an efficient canalization, in cases where it is necessary, the psychological tests function as screening and are of easy application by the nursing staff.

Dr. Galindo is currently a full-time professor at the Department of Clinical Nursing of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra, belongs to the academic body "Care at the end of life" and teaches at the bachelor's degree in clinical psychology and the specialty of intensive care nursing.

The projects in which he participates seek the cooperative interrelation between art and clinical psychology, not only to contribute to the culture of a successful ageing with quality of life or to develop avant-garde psychotherapeutic strategies, but also to generate theoretical and practical tools that foster positive social behavior with or without altruistic motivation, and better understand contemporary adolescent thinking in Mexico.

Interviewed after receiving this recognition, Dr. Galindo spoke about the meaning of this distinction given to him by the state Government "represents a great honor and enormous responsibility forward, to continue contributing with the actions of social impact as professor of the University of Guanajuato and member of the College of Psychologists of Celaya, but above all, to motivate the students and practitioners to be involved in actions that result in a better psychosocial environment in our Country," he said.

The award was presented at the multiple-use hall of the Guanajuato State Congress on November 30th, within the event of the awards ceremony to collegiate professional and distinguished college 2018.
