Guanajuato, Gto., December 10, 2018.- In order to address topical issues about the management of obesity, as well as the problems associated with the disease, took place the second cathedra of nutrition that brought together national and foreign specialists in the Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG).

During two days of activities were presented 21 papers in which participated experts who met at the Forum of UG's Campus León, to expose issues as public policies in Mexico in the field of obesity in childhood, body composition of the adolescent, nutritional approach in sport, deterioration in bone and muscle tissue in obesity, among others.

The number of obese children and adolescents around the world has multiplied in recent decades, said Dr. Pedro Arturo Alexander Cortez, President of the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Kinanthropometry and Body Composition, who intervened with the Conference titled "Body Composition in adolescents: metabolic implications".

He said in an interview that overweight and obesity are considered a serious public health problem, because of his presence in chronic diseases such as cardiovascular, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and other conditions that are increasingly seen between People of all ages, indicated that if the percentage of people living with this condition increases "imposes an economic burden" and "deserves great expenses to keep people within the expected normal range according to their conditions".

He added that it is necessary to work more on prevention issues with parents and to generate public policies to reduce the problem of obesity because "in childhood the situation is worsening too".

For her part, Dr. Rebeca Monroy Torres, professor-researcher of the Department of Medicine and Nutrition and member of the organizing committee of the event mentioned that obesity has become an actual topic where it is necessary to generate a platform for actions and key actors to plan strategies that allow to reduce the rates of the disease, as well as making multidisciplinary work of prevention, "through a multidisciplinary group to integrate from the economist, the political scientist, to the physicist, especially in biomedical engineering, no one is excluded of the obesity topic."

She also said that it is necessary that "the universities really manage a logic and a discourse, in this case not dual. The first strategy would be for the health discourse to be translated into an ecosystem, that the institutional academic environment is built to talk about this prevention that we both promote", besides "building an ecosystem that really allows me to be consistent with that healthy lifestyle and employing the university's own inputs."

This event was organized by the University Observatory of Food and nutritional security of the state of Guanajuato A.C. (OUSANEG) and the academic body of Translational Medicine of the Department of Medicine and Nutrition of UG and was directed to students and Professionals in the area of health, as well as interested in the topic.

Dr. José de Jesús Bernal Alvarado, Academic Secretary of the León Campus, was responsible for conducting the inaugural declaration of the event.
