Guanajuato, Gto., December 11, 2018.- Due to the quality of its academic community, its international research network, its productivity and impact, among other elements, the University of Guanajuato (UG) is ranked number 14 in the QS Ranking.

This year, for the first time, QS published rankings for the five most popular destinations chosen by students within the university count by region 2019. These destinations are China, India, Japan, South Korea and Mexico, in our country, UG ranked number fourteen.

According to the QS page, the methodology used to develop the regional ranking uses five basic criteria: impact of research and productivity, commitment to teaching, employability, online impact, and since edition 2016 and 2017, internationalization.

The method retains the key indicators of global classification, such as academic reputation, employer reputation and teacher-per-pupil ratio, but also considers a set of carefully designed performance measures for the region.

In these measurements, the University of Guanajuato emphasizes the figures of the staff with doctorate, an aspect that reveals the commitment of the universities with high quality teaching and research.

An outstanding aspect is the number of articles per teacher, that is to say, the average number of scientific publications (documents) produced by teachers and evaluates the productivity of the research of the institutions.

Another element in which UG stands out is in the number of citations per academic article, which allows an estimation of the impact and quality of scientific work done by universities.

The International Research Network is another of the strengths of the University of Guanajuato. This indicator evaluates the degree of openness in terms of research activity for each evaluated institution, in order to detect those institutions with richer international links.

It is important to mention that the world Ranking of Universities QS is an annual ordering of universities of the world arranged with a criterion of hierarchy.

In analog way, QS publishes a Latin American Ranking of universities. In the 2019 edition of the aforementioned order the University of Guanajuato occupies the 96th position, which represents a relative improvement of 3 places with respect to the 2018 ranking, where it occupied the 99th position, which places it for the second consecutive year among the best 100 Latin American universities and for the third consecutive year with an improvement in their position compared to the previous year.

The criteria in which the University of Guanajuato outstood the regional ranking coincide with the measurement criteria for Mexico.
