León, Gto., December 11, 2018.- In order to recover spaces for artistic and cultural activities in addition to generating social, environmental benefits and improving the aesthetics of the Forum venue of the León Campus of the University of Guanajuato (UG), a group of students of the degree in Culture and Art lead the project "Enchúlame el Jardín".
Conchita ceniza, sedum lemon, slat and succulents are part of the 280 species of plants that were placed on the green wall of 3x 2.20 meters that was installed in the Forum venue of the Campus León of UG.
On the other hand, it has 150 plants of shade and sun that are in different spaces of the place to make of these areas a space of recreation and habitual rest, as well as motivate the participation of the university community and visitors to improve the environment and generate environmental awareness.
This project is led by María Fernanda García Martín del Campo, who, in the company of Ismael Arturo Ramos Hernández, Alicia Medina Alvarado & Fátima del Carmen Velázquez Ríos all students of Culture & Art have worked in the care of plants and their distribution at the venue, under the coordination of Dr. Vanessa Freitag, professor-researcher of the Department of Cultural Studies.
This initiative participated in the call "Environment UG" promoted by the academic secretariat through the general coordination of academic Development of the Campus itself, it has the purpose of transforming the environment positively, generate the culture of caring for the environment and making responsible use of natural resources.
Maria Fernanda Garcia commented in an interview that this idea has managed to prosper thanks to the commitment of the students and academics, said "it needed a green area full of life to which a student could attend when needing to destress or relax". She added that there are also a couple of seats that were donated to be used by students or visitors.
She also expressed the benefits of having green areas as well as they beautify the place, they generate physical and emotional wellbeing in people, causing a feeling of attachment, care and affection towards the university.
She concluded that this idea represents an alternative to compensate for the lack of space to plant trees and is an option in which "the students leave something of them in the institution when designing, decorating and painting the pots" and taking advantage of these spaces to artistic, cultural and academic events.
