Guanajuato, Gto., January 3, 2019.- The legislative work is-especially in our country-a very questionable work. However, the perception of citizenship does not always have solid foundations, recognizes the researcher at the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Fernando Patrón Sánchez. Thus, to offer verifiable measurements on the performance of Deputies and senators, he wrote, "The legislative professionalization in Mexico", in co-authorship with Dr. Ofelia Camacho García.

Both are attached to the Public management department of the Guanajuato Campus, and for four years have focused on exploring how professionals and legislators are in our country.

Thus, "We take several studies that have been applied for a long time in other countries, the United States and Europe. We try to adjust these models to apply them to the Mexican case", the result of this research work is the work they published in co-authorship.

"The perception of the citizenship of politicians in general is tremendously negative, and we certainly corroborate several of these impressions through these rankings, but what we are offering above all are more dynamic measurements and verifiable," explains Dr. Fernando Patrón.

He adds that what is stated in "Legislative professionalization in Mexico" goes far beyond what a mere impression of citizens could give us, as variables such as the trajectory and experience of legislators are analyzed, the number of initiatives they present, the Academic training, the number of times they met, their work in commissions, legislative spending, among others.

On the findings in their research, they commented that, in the case of federal deputies and senators, the bulk of them has a medium professionalization. However, Dr. Ofelia Camacho clarified that schooling is not a weight variable, because the limitations can be solved with previous trajectory or experience in similar positions.

They agreed that there are no or very few studies that measure professionalization, "where more has been in state congresses, only that affordable information for such cases is minimal," said Dr. Camacho.

The work written by the academics of the UG offers a wide panorama on the theoretical discussions of the professionalization that have been developed in other countries, and it is intended to approach to generate parameters that allow to relate and to associate the variables that they explain in a better way the legislative professionalization in the Mexican case.

In this way, they leave open lines of research to develop more robust analyses on the subject. In addition to academic value, both authors agree that the results of their analyses are accessible to a broad audience.

"Legislative professionalization in Mexico" is edited by Tirant Lo Blanch and can be purchased in bookstores such as the Economic Culture Fund (FCE), Gandhi and El Sótano, among others.
