
Guanajuato, Gto., January 11, 2019.- "From France to Mexico, from Mexico to France: Texts on the journey between two cultures" is the name of one of the editorial novelties of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Guanajuato.
This book is the result of a seminar organized by the University of Guanajuato together with the French Alliance and the Mexican Cultural Centre (MCC), in which professors of the degrees in Hispanic literature, philosophy and history participated. The coordinators of the publication are Dr. Andreas Kurz and Eduardo Estala Rojas.
The professor and researcher at the University of Guanajuato and current director of the Department of Hispanic Literature, Dr. Andreas Kurz commented that "The seminar took place in twelve sessions and seven of these became articles that make up the chapters of this Volume ". He said that the texts that can be found in the book refer to historical, cultural, artistic, literary and thinking relations between Mexico and France in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
He stressed that one of the main objectives of the publication is to show that the relationship between these two countries was not unilateral in those times, not only Mexico was a recipient of the French culture but also the European country was nourished of Mexico. In the presentation included in the publication, Dr. Kurz wrote "a text inserted as the final point of the book, stresses the influence of Mexico in France: a country sometimes tired of its achievements, the unbearable weight of history, seeks and finds new perspectives in a young and struggling culture. "
Some of the topics addressed in this book are the following: The francization of nineteenth Mexico; French booksellers in Mexico during the nineteenth century; Surrealist techniques to trace the cultural relationship between Mexico and France; The French gallery of the "inventories" by José Emilio Pacheco; The importance of French literature in some Mexican writers; and the influence of the thought of Henri Bergson in the Mexican ideology and philosophy.
