Guanajuato, Gto., January 18, 2019.- The summers of Science, formerly known as summers of scientific research at the University of Guanajuato, will be 25 years in June, so the Directorate of Research Support and Postgraduate in the UG prepares innovations to enrich this program.

The summer of science has the purpose of cultivating scientific vocations and generating knowledge of the human being and its natural and cultural environment, through the development of projects, promoting collaborative work in an environment of creativity and recognition of the diversity of academic formations of the participants.

In an interview, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendívil, head of the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate support commented that "it is a program of the institution in which all the campuses, all the divisions, all the departments promoted by the DAIP, but the substantive activity is in these spaces, it's for the whole university."

The summer of science program at the University of Guanajuato, currently has several modalities that allow students to collaborate directly with a researcher and engage with companies or government institutions.

The programme has several categories: Scientific research summer for students enrolled in the UG undergraduate programs; Scientific research summer for students of excellence from Mexico or abroad; Scientific research summer for high school students of UG, and summer of scientific research in companies and government agencies.

It should be recalled that a couple of years ago the "Ingenious Ideas" modality was created, directed to working groups that develop a project to attend a social, scientific or technological problem and last year the category of "Scientific bands" was created, with various characteristics that allow students to perform activities in accordance with their profile or the discipline in which they develop

The 2018 issue was attended by 709 students from the University of Guanajuato and this year it is expected that the participation is higher by the students of the various degrees of the four campuses and the 11 high schools, in the areas of engineering and technologies, social-administrative sciences, agricultural sciences, natural and exact sciences, health sciences, education and humanities.

These days it was opened in the UG the call which envisages changes in the scheme of the program; this call invites to participate in the institutional program of summers of science in its 25th edition to professors-researchers and students of all UG to generate a comprehensive scientific project that contemplates scientific research, humanistic or technological products and to develop related products for their interaction with the environment such as: Social communication of science, scientific dissemination, entrepreneurship and others.

In this regard, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale noted that "summer now has these characteristics, they will not be projects for one person, but for groups of between three and six people, with well-defined responsibilities for a proposal from the teacher to generate Products in these three substantive activities of the University (teaching, research and extension of knowledge)."

"That is the main change, and the idea is that the teacher not only make his research product with a single student, but with the whole group, preferably multidisciplinary-but not necessarily-, and can generate products for communication of science -their research-- that is, not only to be done, but for society to know that it is done; and also products for education in the different modalities offered by the university on the subject, either continuing education, which is a possibility, or, if it is possible to generate a product for formal education, as well; that is the essential change of the summer schemes," he added.

The call is open from January 14th and closes on February 7th to receive the initial proposals from the professors.
