
Guanajuato, Gto., February 13, 2019.- In order to strengthen and expand the collaboration between the University of Guanajuato (UG) and the Japanese institutions, students of the Soka University participate in the cultural Immersion program in the UG in February.
The delegation of Soka University is composed of 10 students and will be in the city of Guanajuato from February 4 to 18.
Dr. Elías Ledesma Orozco, Director of International Relations and Academic Collaboration, welcomed them and wished them the best of success during their stay at the University of Guanajuato.
During a 2-week stay, the delegation will attend reading, grammar and conversation courses in Spanish. They will also participate in cultural activities such as dance and singing classes, as well as trips to historic sites: Atotonilco, San Miguel Allende and the archeological zone of plazas; In addition, Japanese students can interact and live with families of Guanajuato where they know more about Mexican culture.
It is important to note that the participation of this delegation has been carried out for several years consecutively and that it comes to contribute and to increase the relationship with the Oriental institutions of higher education (IES).
This year marks the 29th anniversary of friendship and academic cooperation between UG and Soka University. In addition to sharing the study of the language and culture of the respective countries, the cooperation between the two universities has been broadened through the realization of joint research projects in the areas of environmental management and engineering, wastewater treatment, remediation processes of contaminated soils and the aim is to increase collaboration.
Founded in 1971 by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, the university boasts an 870,000-square-foot head office in Hachioji, Tokyo suburb city. The institutional mission established by Ikeda is the non-denominational and interdisciplinary development of humanistic education, culture and peace. Among other ideas, Ikeda said that the university student should serve the people.
Currently, Soka University maintains academic exchange agreements with some 170 universities of 49 nations and has one of the most varied student exchange programs in Japan, which today benefit more than 260 students from 45 nations. In May 2015, the University registered a student body of 8000 people, including 390 graduate students and 550 students from the Feminine Superior Institute.
It should be recalled that UG recognized Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, founding president of Soka University, with the degree of Doctor honoris causa in 1990, for his contributions to world peace, to the understanding between nations, as well as to literature and photographic art.
