Irapuato, Gto., Februrary 12, 2019.- The research professor at the University of Guanajuato (UG) Dr. Héctor Gordon Núñez Palenius, participated in the consultative workshop for the elaboration of the forestry program of the state of Guanajuato, entrusted to the National Institute of Agricultural Forestry Research and Livestock (INIFAP).

In the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA), held sessions those involved in validating the information that will support the lines of action for an adequate management of forest resources in the state of Guanajuato, which will be implemented in this administration, but with a vision of 2040.

Dr. Ricardo Rivera Vázquez, lead researcher of the INIFAP, reported that this institution oversees the development of the forestry program of the state of Guanajuato, a project financed by the Institute of Planning, Statistics and Geography (IPLANEG) and the Secretariat of the Environment and Land Management (SMAOT).

Among other experts from different instances, to the consultative workshop was invited the university professor ascribed to the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus, who has extensive experience in the research of plant biology and agricultural sciences.

Dr. Núñez Palenius stressed the importance of having a governing body that provides strategies and programs to improve forest conditions in the entity, "basically it is to have a document that defines which plants should be used for the Reforestation depending on the vocation of each zone of the state of Guanajuato. "

He exemplified that in the area of Santa Rosa is recommended to plant oak or pine trees, but in the south of the state is better for non-timber forest plants such as agaves, cacti or oregano, while for the region of the Bajío that is low forest , native species that have a good adaptation and a low water footprint should be used, so as not to occupy as much of the water as it could be in other areas. 

The foregoing, coupled with other measures, seeks to promote the observance of natural resource management with adequate management, promotion and development of the forestry sector, to curb the deterioration of ecosystems and natural resources.
